Sidney Butler

Sidney Butler is a writer from Houston, TX. A graduate from Tisch School of the Arts, her work has been awarded by the Sundance Ignite Fellowship and the Disney Writing Fellowship. As a writer she is drawn to write and tell stories about Black women in crises and their journey to find themselves. Over the last few years in Los Angeles, she has worked in multiple television writers' rooms including: Station 19,  A Black Lady Sketch Show and Grown-ish before she was staffed on the Lee Daniels’ drama show, Our Kind of People. Most recently, she wrote the scripted YA-mystery podcast, Academy, for Wondery and Amazon. When she’s not writing, she enjoys binging reality television and trying to find the recipe for the best chocolate chip cookie.

As a writer, I’m constantly drawn to write and tell stories about characters who are in crises and their journey to accepting themselves. I love when ordinary stories are heightened through witty dialogue and quirky characters. I want to amplify the voices of young Black girls and make them feel seen in the coming-of-age genre.
